Sport Meetings

In recent years we have had several officiating brothers pass away in our community and others. Because of this, we have decided to remember 3 officials who were leaders in the officiating world and in their communities. The first is Art Willard who was a key member in the development of the JAOA and was a Big Ten basketball official. Some of you may have known Art as the announcer at Jackson High basketball games. The second official who we are remembering is Don Edwards of Grand Rapids who was Art's partner in basketball and was also a Mid American Conference basketball official. Don helped a number of officials get their start in the Grand Rapids area. The third official is Tony Payne of Lansing who was a Big Ten football and MAC basketball official. Tony was only 44 when he passed away and still worked high school games in his last years.
 
We have joined with the West Michigan Officials Association and the Capital Area Officials Association to fully endow a $1,000 annual scholarship at Jackson Community College, Grand Rapids Community College and Lansing Community College. In order to do this we are hosting the ADT Memorial Golf Outing to raise $60,000 in a 5 year period. We have already been working to raise funds and have over $15,000 committed. What we are looking for now is golf players and any item that would make a good raffle item. The outing information is as follows.
 
Monday June 30th- Arbor Hills Golf Club- 10 am shotgun start with a dinner to follow. The cost is $110 per player with $50 of the cost being tax deductible. If would like to play but don't have a foursome let me know and we will hook you up with some great people. Please review the flyer that is attached and send your registration to Eric Wills or to me. This is going to be a great day as officials from all across the Great Lakes Region are joining together to help this great cause.
 
If you are unable to play but would like to make a monetary donation or have a raffle item please let me know. You may also join us for dinner if you are unable to play. Simply complete the registration form and send it to Eric Wills.
