Dear JAOA member,
By now you are probably wondering what is happening with the JAOA. Some of you are probably asking what happened to the annual banquet. Others are probably asking when do I pay my dues. Let me answer some of those questions for you.
Earlier in the year the board decided that we needed to look at making some changes to the banquet and find ways to increase attendance at an annual event. We are planning a family picnic at the Michigan International Speedway Champions Club. A date is still being determined but stay tuned for more details.
If you have not paid your dues or submitted a current registration form, now is the time. Due to the delay in getting the picnic organized we have pushed back the registration deadline to June 27th. Please go to the website and print a registration form to send with your dues. Annual Dues are $20 if paid between now and June 27th, 2008 Annual Dues are $30 if paid after June 27st, 2008
For those of you who were joint members of the CAOA and the JAOA, we will no longer be honoring that reciprocal agreement. At this point you need to be a member of the CAOA or the JAOA but not both. There were significant differences in requirements for member in good standing status, amount of the dues and the logistical nightmare of keeping track of meeting attendance etc.
Don’t forget that on Monday June 30th we will be involved with the ADT Memorial Outing at Arbor Hills Golf Club. We will be raising money for a scholarship at Jackson Community College in memory of Art Willard. The election process this year will be handled through the JAOA website. Please go to www.jaoa.net after June 23rd and you will be able to find the nominees for this year’s election. Then simply send an email to Tom with your selections. We will tally and post the results on the website after July 1.
Another way that you can become involved in the association is to volunteer for a 1-year term on a sport committee. We are establishing a minimum of 3 person committees for each sport. These committees will be responsible for setting the meeting content for each sport. We will also have a committee to help with the picnic/banquet. If you are interested in making a difference in our meetings please email me brucekeeling@hotmail.com with a subject line of JAOA and tell me what committee you would like to be a part of. This is your chance to have a say!
On Sunday August 3rd at 5pm we will be holding a Meeting for the General Membership at the Sportsman’s Club. At this time we will discuss JAOA & MHSAA issues and requirements. I will attempt to answer any questions about officiating that you have on your mind. Please plan on attending and a football meeting will follow at 6 pm.
In the future look for quarterly updates from me and more information flowing from the website. If you have any suggestions about how to make the JAOA organization stronger or improved please contact me and I will see that the board takes a look your suggestion.
